French art deco bronze brooch with horseman
Beautiful French Art Deco gilt bronze brooch in featuring a horseman – a knight? an angel? – blowing a trumpet. The background is sprinkled with Cocteau-esque stars and the brooch is shaped and contoured to suggesting a fragment of parchment. We don’t know the maker of this stunning brooch and haven’t seen another like it.
It fastens with an ingenious double pin, suitable for pinning to a thick coat or perhaps even a fur, very fashionable in the 1930s.
