Victorian Silver Scottish agate brooch c1880
A large Victorian silver Scottish agate brooch, made between 1860 and 1880. This is a lovely example of the fashion popularised by Queen Victoria during her visits to Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside.
The different coloured agates have been cut to show off the beauty of their grain, and set in engraved sterling silver.Typically, the silver isn’t hallmarked but has been tested as silver.
With its original pin and a sturdy C clasp, this heavy brooch also has a jump ring so it could be worn on a chain while pinned in place.
