Pierre D’Avesn Art Deco vase with scrolled handles
Splendid Pierre D’Avesn Art Deco vase with scrolled handles from around 1930.
Pierre D’Avesn was a student of the ceramist and maître verrier, François Décorchement and worked under René Lalique. During his long career, he designed for almost all the great names in French glass, but is best known for his Art Deco production, which epitomised the era – as this one does.
It is in heavy pewter-coloured glass and has massive double scrolled handles. Bands of acid textured decoration encircle the body of the vase.
The sculptural design plays well with the light and transparence of the pewter glass.
Height 18cm/ 7 inches
Width 23cm/ 9 inches
In excellent condition. It has a straw mark from manufacture near the base – minor and typical of early moulded crystal from the period.
