Gilbert Metenier Persian pitcher
A Gilbert Méténier Persian pitcher or jug in glazed stoneware, French, early 20th century.
Glazed in deep blue and shades of ocher and coppery brown, it has a a dimpled belly and reticulated handle.
This rare and imposing piece was known as the Carafe Persane. It has strong Art Nouveau overtones which would suggest it dates from earlier in Metenier’s career.
