About Vasart/Monart:
Scottish art glass made using skills perfected at Charles Schneider, France
Originally from Barcelona, Salvador Ysart (1878-1955) worked as a glassblower at the Schneider glassworks in Épinay-sur-Seine, France, before moving to Scotland in 1915. At the Moncrieff glassworks in Perth, he began to design a range of distinctive art glass under the name ‘Monart’. Then, after WWII ended, he and his sons launched a new range called ‘Vasart’. The name changed to ‘Strathearn’ in 1965, and some models were carried over with new variations on colour and decor.
Salvador Ysart drew on what he had learned in Spain and at Schneider, France, creating his own highly personal style. His aesthetic was carried on by his sons, who all were all skilled glassblowers.
