Superb French Art Deco 12″ opaline glass vase with thistles by Vianne, c1925
Superb French Art Deco 12″ blue opaline glass vase by Vianne, c1925
Gorgeous with gladioli. Gorgeous without.
This outstanding French opaline vase is from around 1925 and was almost certainly made by Verreries Vianne, a glassworks in Aquitaine founded in the early 1920s. Many of Vianne’s pre-war glass blowers were Czechoslovak, and brought their expertise of opaline glass with them. It is signed on the base, but the signature is very faint.
It has an elegant 9-sided shape with ribbed panels and a gorgeous relief of thistles all around the top.
Delicate blue on the outside, it has a thick casing of white glass on the inside, giving it depth and translucence.
Height : 31cm /12 ¼ inches
Width : 18cm / 7 inches
Perfect condition, not a nibble, just some micro abrasions on the base you expect from age and use.
