Jean Pointu French Ceramist Drip Glaze Stoneware Vase c1912
A fine hand thrown, drip glaze stoneware vase by the French ceramist, Jean Pointu (1843-1925).
Pointu was a noted member of the École de (Jean) Carriès in St-Amand-de-Puisaye. He was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and Japanese inspiration, evident in this vase. The glaze is subtle and beautiful – bronze, moss green drips over a dark blue base glaze, fired for a soft sheen.
The vase has the ceramist’s incised signature – Jean U. and the number 160.
Dates from around 1912.
